Welcome to home is where the boat is: the ship's blog, my journal of life with and aboard our lovely Evelyn.
After a long search for a boat of our own we found Evelyn, a Tahiti Ketch II designed by John Hanna in the 1920s, made popular during the Great Depression, built by Ben Severns in the 1970s and then launched on June 1, 1985, to eventually become part of our family on October 6, 2011.

We know that what we are doing is not new or unique, but it is new and special to us. This blog is my journal of our current adventure, and a way to share that adventure with family, friends, and all those who wonder what our life aboard Evelyn is like...
At the moment... At the end of April 2014, we returned to Mount Desert Island, Maine following a seven-month cruise of the East Coast. It was a wonderful journey, and we had a fantastic time! We jumped right into work and a busy, busy summer and I find myself still trying to catch up! Lou spent his fifth year captaining the Friendship Sloop Helen Brooks, and I worked both as his crew and at the Abbe Museum. In September we changed tacks again as Lou took on a new captaining role--with it we've headed south again these past two winters, and spent the summer along the coast of Maine. Evelyn, meanwhile, is benefiting from some much-deserved rest and pampering, and we are looking forward to tackling a number of projects that will be easier-done while she is out of the water. We are hoping to relaunch her in June of 2016. While journal entries and posts slowly find their way here to this blog, more up to date photos can be found on Facebook and Instagram -- and you don't have to have an account to take a look at them. Hope you enjoy!
